A Darning Sampler ~ The stitches are neatly worked, and Marie showed skill with her needle, particularly in the bottom section, where she has worked seven darning panels. I particularly enjoyed recreating these panels, and they worked up very quickly. The stitch used is a simple running stitch. The first in a series of darning samplers.

Marie’s sampler has been reproduced with a gorgeous palette of just six colours. The model was stitched with Soie 100.3 from Au Ver à Soie, and we have included below conversions for Soie d’Alger (SDA) and DMC.
You will require one spool or skein of each colour when stitching with one thread on 36 to 56ct linen. When stitching on 28 to 36ct count linen with two strands of DMC, you will require two skeins of 319 and 321. When stitching on 32ct linen with two strands of SDA, you will require two skeins of 1836 and 2924 and, on 28ct linen, two skeins of 1836 and three skeins of 2924.

The design area is 209 stitches (w) x 201 stitches (h). Our calculations have included a 3″ margin for finishing and framing. The model was stitched on 56ct linen, and we recommend that you use linen dyed to a rich cream colour to showcase your needlework.
